Taxi Charity veterans and committee members will be attending commemoration services for the 71st anniversary of the Normandy landings on Saturday 6 June 2015.
Our Transport Officer, Terry Ward (aka Barking Bill) will be taking veterans Vic McKenzie (Royal Army Service Corps attached 7th Armoured Division), Charlie Jefferies (King's Royal Rifle Corp - KRRC), Dickie Forrester (KRRC) and George Stagg (Royal Engineers) to Bayeux in his cab.
Their trip will start on 3 June with a seven hour ferry from Portsmouth to Caen Ferry Port in Ouistreham.
On Thursday 4 June, they will spend some time in Arromanches, meeting up with James Corrigan (Durham Light Infantry) and the Surrey branch of the Normandy Veterans Association (NVA).
Then on Saturday 6 June, they'll head to Bayeux for a 10am service at Bayeux Cathedral and a midday service at the Bayeux War Cemetary. They will also attend a parade into the square at 6pm.
Vice President, Dick Goodwin, was scheduled to accompany Roy Cadman, a recent recipient of the French Légion d'honneur, to Ranville but Roy has had to pull out due to ill health.
At midnight on 5 June, there will be a firework display at Pegasus Bridge, Bénouville .
Then on 6 June, Dick will be travelling to Ranville for an 11am service at Ranville War Cemetary where he will lay a wreath for the Commandos and meet up with some of our other veterans, including Paras Tommy Schaffer, Jeff Pattinson and Fred Glover.
He will also visit La Brèche, to lay a wreath for his father's regiment, the 7th Field Royal Artillery.
