When the Army sent me to represent 3rd UK Division on the Normandy beaches one 6th June, it was the fraternal joy in the faces of D-Day veterans, who had been driven to Caen by cabbies, that I shall never forget.
Asked to be an ambassador for this charity, I could not refuse. Daddy was at D-Day and I know he would have loved the camaraderie that the cab trade brings to this act of respectful generosity and kindness. I can only imagine the journey home from the many veterans reunions: on back seats that are normally filled by City business people, tourists and carefree London punters, sleeps a contented veteran, who gave his youth and many of his friends for their freedom.
