4 - 7 June 2021
The weekend of the 5 and 6 of June is the 77th anniversary of the WWII D-Day landings.
We would normally take a group of WWII veterans to Normandy to mark this important date and remember those that didn’t come back.
Last year we were unable to travel to Normandy and unfortunately this year travel restrictions mean travel is still not possible, so we will be attending a service at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.
Itinerary
Friday 4 June 2021
Veterans, carers and volunteer drivers check-in to hotel.
Dinner at 6:30pm
Saturday 5 June 2021
Drivers escort veterans and carers to The Battlefield Line at Shackerstone Station to climb aboard the 'Normandy Flyer' for a nostalgic journey on a steam hauled train through the famous battlefield at Market Bosworth and onto Shenton where the loco is run around the train for the return journey to Shackerstone.
Weather permitting, tea and coffee will be waiting when we turn to Shackerstone and then veterans and carers have a free afternoon to find a pub or enjoy the local countryside.
Dinner at 6:30pm.
Sunday 6 June 2021
Drivers escort veterans and carers to the National Memorial Arboretum (NMA). Taxis will travel in a convoy.
The service starts at 10:30am and will finish around 12pm.
Lunch at the NMA.
There is to be a short service at the Normandy Memorial after the main service.

Monday 7 June 2021

A huge thank you to the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) for their generous grant towards the Taxi Charity taking naval and marine veterans to the NMA for D-Day 77.
